'Senate bill will harm children'

Beloit Daily News - 7/20/2017

The U.S. Senate's Health Care Bill, like the AHCA, contains provisions that would be disastrous for the 400,000 children in Wisconsin that are covered by Medicaid.

After decades, 96 percent of children in our state have health insurance, a record high which now stands to be undone, not only for low-income families, Medicaid is vital for children with disabilities and other special health care needs.

Additionally, high-quality care for all children may be affected - a substantial drop in children covered by Medicaid will cause significant service cutbacks at children's hospitals.

While children make up 43 percent of Medicaid enrollees nationally, they represent under 20 percent of costs. Additionally, children's care is often preventive in nature - and healthy children are more likely to grow up to be healthy, productive, working adults who contribute to society.

The current proposals are bad for children's well-being and bad for Wisconsin. Please contact our Senators and express your concerns.
