Sunny Hill Nursing Home among top 10 percent in Illinois

The Herald News - 7/21/2017

JOLIET ? Sunny Hill Nursing Home is bringing in the accolades after capping off a more than 13-year extensive remodel.

But the hard work and dedication of the administration and staff are a key reason why, according to Will County officials.

Sunny Hill has received a five-star rating from the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services, which places the facility in the top 10 percent of nursing homes in the state of Illinois. Will County Board Public Health and Safety Committee Chairwoman Judy Ogalla, R-Monee, announced the news Thursday.

"That's a really big achievement," Ogalla said. "[Former Executive Director Karen Sorbero] and [current Executive Director Becky Haldorson] and all of the staff do the best they can to provide for the residents at the nursing home."

The nursing home previously received three-star and four-star ratings in most years.

Will County Board Majority Leader Chuck Maher, R-Naperville, said it's great that Sunny Hill won the award and is on the same level as private nursing homes.

"To have a public nursing home that is ranked that high in the state is a testament to this board and the folks at Sunny Hill and all the hard work that they do to help the citizens here in Will County in the twilight of their lives," Maher said. "My heart and hat goes off to those guys.
