After photo goes viral, Texas paper confirms 15 residents airlifted from flooded nursing home

Fifteen people were rescued from a flooded nursing home in Texas, a local paper confirmed.

The Daily News of Galveston County reported that Dickinson emergency management coordinator David Popoff said 15 people were rescued from the nursing home by helicopter, and posted a photo that had gone viral on Twitter.

The paper quoted Popoff as saying, "We were air-lifting grandmothers and grandfathers.”

The New York Times also wrote about the photo, reporting that a Houston woman told them her sister lived in the facility and is visible in the background.

"Ms. Bobrick said she had no doubts about the photo's authenticity; she recognized the center and the level of flooding matched what she had already learned," the publication said.
