NRV Disability Resource Center to host disAbility Law Center of Virginia NRV Disability Resource Center to host disAbility Law Center of Virginia

Roanoke Times - 1/12/2018

The New River Valley Disability Resource Center will host an informational workshop on legal issues impacting people with disabilities, presented by the disAbility Law Center of Virginia. The event will take place on Friday, Jan. 26, beginning at 10 a.m. at the NRV DRC office located at 53 W. Main St., Suite A, in downtown Christiansburg.

A team from the disAbility Law Center will explain how their organization helps address disability-related legal concerns. Following the presentation, attendees will be able to speak to one of the center's advocates about a particular issue. All sessions are 30 minutes long and are free of charge. Attendees are encouraged to call the NRV DRC at 266-1435 to indicate their interest ahead of time. Those seeking a one-on-one appointment should bring any documentation regarding their concern.

The mission of the NRV DRC is to assist individuals with disabilities to live independently.

The center serves the community at large by advocating for and creating an environment accessible to all. This workshop is an example of the support and referral resources that the agency provides.

As a Center for Independent Living (CIL), NRV DRC operates under a strict philosophy of consumer control; people of all ages with all types of disabilities directly govern and staff the organization, which serves Floyd, Giles, Montgomery and Pulaski counties and the towns within them, and the city of Radford.
