Nursing home task force seeks community input

Akron Beacon Journal - 2/26/2020

A group focusing on nursing homes and other long-term care facilities in Summit County is seeking input from the community.

The Summit County Nursing Homes and Facilities Task Force has created two anonymous surveys for the community to take, one for facility employees and one for families of residents.

The seven-question family survey is available at bit.ly/2Vq3EaL, and the 11-question employee survey is available at bit.ly/390eubw. The names of both the facility and the person taking the survey will remain anonymous.

The surveys will remain open until 10 p.m.March 13.

The task force -- which has committees on staffing, legislation, operations and visitation of facilities -- has had three meetings so far. Staffing has been a prominent focus at each meeting as the group searches for solutions that can improve conditions for residents, their families and facility operators

Summit County Council approved creating the task force in August. The idea for the group came about after a June report listed a Copley facility that closed last summer, Fairlawn Rehab and Nursing Center, among the worst in the nation.

Future task force meetings, which are open to the public, are scheduled for March 24 (Summit County Probate Court presentation), April 21 (Stark State College STNA presentation) and May 19, all at 10 a.m. in the Greater Akron Chamber conference room in Akron's AES Building, 388 S. Main St., Suite 205.

The task force will present its findings and recommendations for immediate, intermediary and long-term solutions to County Council and the county executive in a written report later this year.
